M2 riders tackle the Tour of California

Seats are selling fast!!!

Ever wanted to ride at the front of the professional peloton, off the front with Lance Armstrong and Levi Leipheimer working furiously to close the gap? Well, here's your chance!

Amgen Tour of California Stage 3: San Francisco to Santa Cruz

Hwy 1 just north of Bonny Doon climbTuesday, May 18th we will tackle Stage 3 of the Tour of California. The stage is both picturesque and challenging, starting at Ocean Beach and making its way down Hwy. 1 before turning up the signature pensinula climb Tunitas Creek, descending Kings Mtn Road to Woodside, before climbing back up to Skyline via Hwy. 84 and making its way back to the coast via Pescadero and Cloverdale Roads.

Once at the coast, riders will form pacelines to keep the desperate peloton at bay, before tackling the final climb obstacle of the day, Bonny Doon Road. Once at the top of Bonny Doon, it is a fast and furious descent to Santa Cruz where the crowd and finish line await at the Beach Boardwalk - should be a blast.

M2 Tour of California Route Menu Options:

The Super Grande Burrito:

113 miles or 182.9 kilometers - decisive Bonny Doon Climb occurs at mile 100. Here you can expect the top-tier GC contenders to unveil themselves at rider sign-in.

Grande Burrito :

Riders assault the Tunitas climb but spare themselves the possible indigestion of dropping down down to Woodside and back up 84, instead turning right on Skyline, rejoining the route at Hwy. 84. Estimated distance is 100 miles with strong likelihood of another Grande Burrito being inhaled at Stage's end.

Fajitas:

Riders charge down the coast but looking for a bit of picante, they sizzle up the fajitas with a left turn up Bonny Doon. Estimated distance is 85 miles.

Two Tacos:

A straight shot down the coast to the finish line is moderately rolling to begin and then a sizzling fast over a distance of approximately 70 miles. Sprinters will opt for this stage, taking care to protect themselves from coastal winds.

Support and Logistics

Start Time:

To be determined - expect around 7-8am. Remember, we may be as fast as the TOC riders (11:15 start), but the Pro riders will not have to stop at stop signs, etc.

Support:

Ride is self-supported, BUT, there will be an M2 vehicle on the road to assist with possible mechanical issues. We also hope to have 1-2 aid stations in place in designated time frames - details forthcoming.

Finish Line:

Savor the ride experience while watching the Pro field battle to the finish and the podium presentations to follow. An attractive gathering spot is in the process of being arranged.

Transportation:

We have chartered a bus (filling quickly) that will be providing riders and bikes with transportation back to Ocean Beach. Estimated time of departure is 5pm.
